Call for Papers

We welcome both methods papers — novel algorithms and theory for detecting, absorbing, and correcting simulator misspecification — and application papers — case studies bridging simulators or emulators with real-world data — from essentially any scientific domain, including biology, chemistry, physics, materials science, and climate science.

Submission Tracks

1. Workshop Papers (5 pages)

We invite 5-page workshop papers on methodological advances and domain-specific applications that bridge simulators or emulators with real-world data using machine learning. Original contributions and early research works are encouraged. Contributions presenting recently published or currently under review results are also welcome.

2. Tiny Papers (2 pages)

We especially encourage 2-page extended abstracts (Tiny Papers) from under-represented, under-resourced, and budding researchers. These short contributions should address the same topics as workshop papers but in a more concise format, making research accessible to a broader community of participants.

Contribution Guide

  • Format: NeurIPS 2026 LaTeX style (template will be linked here once published)
  • Length: 5 pages (excluding references) for workshop papers, or 2 pages (excluding references) for Tiny Papers
  • Anonymization: Double-blind review required — please anonymize your submission (no author names/affiliations, avoid self-identifying references)
  • Checklist: we follow the NeurIPS-style reproducibility checklist; details will be posted alongside the LaTeX template
  • Submission Portal: OpenReview (link will be posted once available)

Review Process

We will use reciprocal reviewing, where one author of each submitted paper is asked to review 2 other submissions. This approach helps build community engagement and ensures timely reviews. Papers will be reviewed double-blind by program committee members, reciprocal reviewers, and organizers.

Non-archival: The workshop will not have formal proceedings, but accepted submissions will be linked on the workshop webpage.

Want to review for Sim2Science? We are recruiting program committee members alongside reciprocal reviewers. If you'd like to volunteer, email us at sim2science@gmail.com with your area(s) of expertise.

FAQ

Do I need a full paper to submit, or is an abstract enough?

Full 5-page (workshop paper) or 2-page (Tiny Paper) submissions are required by the submission deadline — we do not have a separate abstract-only deadline.

Can I attend without submitting a paper?

Yes. The workshop is open to all registered NeurIPS 2026 attendees, with or without a submission.

Is the workshop archival? Can I submit this work elsewhere later?

Sim2Science is non-archival — there are no formal proceedings, so accepted work remains eligible for submission to archival venues afterward.

Can I submit work that is already published or under review elsewhere?

Yes. We welcome recently published results and work currently under review, alongside original contributions.

How can I get involved beyond submitting a paper?

Reach out to sim2science@gmail.com — we're recruiting reviewers and are happy to hear from prospective sponsors or volunteers.
